We never expected that we’d make it all the way to June without Samsung’s budget Galaxy A27 launching. Last year’s Galaxy A26 hit shelves in March, leaving everyone to ponder what the hold-up could be. Several leaks already gave us a rough idea of what to expect from the device when it eventually launches, but now Samsung has gone ahead and confirmed them. Accidentally, of course, seeing how the device’s product page was quickly disappeared.
A new Galaxy in the wings
It was the Czech Republic’s Samsung that had the honour of dishing the dirt this time (via SamMobile).
The first big reveal is that the 6.7-inch Super AMOLED FHD+ display would implement an Infinity-O design, rather than the Infinity-U design we’ve seen in the past. That means a tighter pinhole notch design for the front-facing camera, rather than the classic waterdrop look seen elsewhere. It’ll also run with a crisp 120Hz refresh rate.
So far, so good. Taking things a step further, the A27 packs in the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip, a big upgrade over the Exynos-based processor we saw last year. It’s bundled up with 6GB of RAM and a choice of 128/256GB of storage. If that isn’t enough, a microSD slot will allow users to bump storage up to something more respectable.

Samsung has unfortunately left the battery as is, providing a 5,000mAh cell and only 25W wired charging. Oddly enough, the Galaxy A27 has been downgraded to an IP64 rating, offering basic protection against dust and water splashes. Compared to the IP67 rating that the Galaxy A26 featured, it’s… quite a big change.
The camera, too, has taken a bit of a beating to accommodate the arrival of Snapdragon. It’s still a 50MP shooter leading the pack on the rear, though it’s now joined by a 5MP ultrawide and 2MP depth sensor. For reference, the Galaxy A26 offered a slightly more palatable 8MP spec. The selfie camera has also seen a slight reduction, dropping down to 12MP from the 13MP shooter that launched last year.
There’s still no telling when the Galaxy A27 will get its start, nor what it’ll cost when it does. History tells us that South Africa will eventually get a turn with the device. First, Samsung has to announce the bloody thing. When it does finally make the Galaxy A27 official, it’ll launch in four colours: black, blue, light green, and pink.
