Huawei has launched a raft of new products, right on time. As expected, one of these is the Watch Kids X1, plus a Pro variant. Both devices have an interesting take on the standard smartwatch face by making it (somewhat) modular.
The standard X1 features a flippable, twistable face, while the Watch X1 Pro’s body detaches altogether. In the latter case, the device can be converted into a little portable camera. There’s an extra accessory for that bit, allowing kiddoes to snap shots without, you know, having access to a whole smartphone.
Always Watch Kids X1
Both devices have quite a lot in common. They share a 1.82in OLED display, and the overall design has them looking identical. Both have cameras in the same locations and should allow for communication with parents. Or friends, we suppose.
But here’s where things get interesting. Both Watch Kids X1 models have dual cameras — a front 5MP and rear 13MP. Calls or snaps should be possible with either side, while the base model comes with 32GB of storage. The Pro? 64GB. It should be good for a few photos before space has to be made. It’s also the reason why the Watch Kids X1’s display is rotatable. The Pro’s little case turns the setup into a highly compact camera.
GPS tracking with geofencing tech, an emergency function, and a health assistant are included in both kids’ wearables. They will, presumably, do all of the usual fitness tracking stuff you could expect from Huawei’s wearables, minus a few of the more sports-centric features.
The only murky bit is availability. Huawei may have revealed the Watch Kids X1 (and friend), but it hasn’t said how much they’ll cost. Both models are listed on the company’s global site, so we’re hopeful that they’ll make the trip this side… at some point.
