If you’ve been eying the Unihertz Titan 2 Elite — like we have — you’ll know the phone became available via Kickstarter earlier this week. That means pricing is available and it’s… acceptable. So acceptable that Unihertz has (at the time of writing) managed to raise $2.75 million on a meagre $100,000 goal.
The phone is coming out. Generally, Kickstarter backers assume at least some risk, but most of the Chinese company’s recent phone launches have used the platform to secure pre-orders. So there’s no worry on that score. But there is a slight problem for South African fans. Shipping.
Message to Titan 2 Elite
Everything about the Titan 2 Elite is now known. The two processor versions, the Dimensity 7400 and 8400, have slightly different specs. Opt for the latter, and you’ll get 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The former drops internal storage to 256GB.
The other known internals are identical. A 32MP front camera, dual 50MP rear cams (one is a telephoto), a 4.03in AMOLED screen, and a 4,050mAh battery sit inside the QWERTY keyboard-toting device. Each person who backs the Kickstarter also gets a free clear case. This will probably expand to include retail units too.
One interesting note from the campaign, though — there’s a Unihertz Titan 2 Elite Pro on the way too. That one will include optical image stabilisation in its main 50MP sensor. Whether it’ll feature any other changes isn’t known.
Here’s the tricky bit. Shipping this smartphone to South Africa will take some doing. There was, a very short time ago, a local Unihertz website. We rechecked it this week, since Kickstarter deliveries won’t make it out this way. It’s since vanished. Either Unihertz has stomped on an entrepreneur in favour of its own local store, or something else has gotten in the way. But if you want a Titan 2 Elite, it’ll have to take a few extra stops on the way to South Africa.
