The Unihertz Titan 2 Elite has been teasing us for a long time, but it’s finally almost time to buy one. As with the brand’s other releases, initial purchases will be done using Kickstarter. The opening date for the campaign? Next week, on 24 March.
At 15h00 South African Standard Time (SAST), if you’re determined to be at the front of the queue. Being there will make some difference, though we’re not exactly sure how much yet. Unihertz promises “early bird pricing” but hasn’t dropped any hints about what that will be.
Unihertz so good?
Not everything, even now, is known about the Titan 2 Elite. There are two processor options — the MediaTek Dimensity 7400 or 8400. The latter will, obviously, be more powerful, but it’ll also extract more from your wallet.
The 4.03in 120Hz 1,200 x 1,080 touchscreen display is an AMOLED panel, and there should be at least 12GB of RAM inside. At a guess, we reckon the Dimensity 8400 model will opt for 16GB. 512GB of storage should be standard across the range, but that’s more educated speculation.
Dual 50MP rear cameras — the exact lens specs are still a mystery — and a 32MP front facer — ditto — are part of the Titan 2 Elite’s makeup. The 4,050mAh battery might be a slight disappointment, unless the processors prove especially efficient. We’ve seen capacities as high as 6,000mAh (in the original Titan), but that number has shrunk with each successive release.
What probably won’t disappoint is the QWERTY keyboard. The one feature that makes this handset really stand out should attract BlackBerry adherents and other folks who don’t like typing on a screen. The keyboard area also acts as a trackpad if you swipe your fingers across its surface.
Want one? Your day is coming. Pricing may be a mystery, but it’ll be more expensive than Unihertz’s Titan 2 launch price of $270 (R4,600). The question is: By how much?
