Unihertz has kept the physical QWERTY keyboard on smartphones alive for some time, and it’s extending the trend with an upgraded version of its Titan 2. The Titan 2 Elite has been teased, so it’s (obviously) not yet on sale. When it does eventually hit markets (including in South Africa, we hope), it’ll offer a slimmer form factor and, hopefully, better specs.
Keeping punk rock Titan 2 Elite
For now, most of what we know is what can be visually determined. The edges of the upgraded Titan have been trimmed down for narrower edges around the still-square 4.03in display, though it seems Unihertz has made design changes with the new rounded corners.
The QWERTY keyboard is also a sleeker affair, something that matches the slimmed-down body of the phone. It measures 10.6mm, which is certainly thinner for the lineup. Rounded corners are everywhere, including on the phone’s outer edges, and the overall impression is of a more modern smartphone. You know, what the BlackBerry could have been if it had survived until now.
We’d imagine that Unihertz’s swipe control, when fingertips are brushed over the keyboard, has remained intact, and there are a few missing keys compared to older models. The Titan 2 Elite still looks plenty rugged, though whether it’ll have the same survivability as the older phones remains to be seen.
Some details claiming to outline the Elite’s internals exist online. The apparent specs are in line with Unihertz’s tendency to use older processors inside its rugged phones, relying on the build and keyboard to make an impression. A MediaTek Dimensity 7300, 12GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage are supposedly inside. It’s not shabby, but it means the phone isn’t for speed demons either. Well… why would it be? It’s got a QWERTY keyboard on it.
As for when it’ll become official, we’d be guessing if we gave any timelines. The official teaser page does have a sign-up for folks who are interested, so if the Titan 2 Elite is on your wishlist, that’s the place to get updates. Or here. We’ll have the updates here when they’re available.
