One of the best things about Spotify is ‘Wrapped’ — a montage of all the music you’ve listened to for the past year, with the added benefit of putting your mate’s listening habits to shame. The next best thing about Spotify is that Wrapped is an annual event, meaning you only have to put up with seeing people ’em on social media for a week or two. Well, no longer. Sptoifty is introducing ‘listening stats’ for you to post about every single week.
That’s a Wrapped
We’re not quite sure why Spotify wants this info out in the open, and even then, this regularly. Wrapped somehow generates FOMO and pulls new customers in that way. We’re willing to bet AI is behind ‘listening stats’, likely skewing some of the milestones the app is about to serve you — like it did during last year’s disastrous Wrapped.
The ‘listening stats’ feature is headed to both free and Premium users in 60 markets, though Spotify doesn’t mention which those are. We’re guessing South Africa is on the list — we get most of the other features on the music streaming app — but there’s no telling when it’ll arrive for everyone. We don’t have the feature, anyway.

Perhaps it was the waning lack of interest surrounding Wrapped that prompted the change, hoping users will brag about their sixty-or-so hours of binging Come on Eileen to get likes on Instagram. Or maybe the company is just running out of ideas. Either way, Spotify listening stats are coming, with their own “special highlight that captures what makes your listening unique, whether it’s a milestone, a new discovery, or a fan moment.”
When the update does eventually hit your device, you can find your weekly stats by tapping on your profile picture, followed by the “listening stats” tab. It’ll give you a list of your top artists, songs, and “insights.” There’s also a handy share button to help you terrorise your contact lists’ WhatsApp Status tab.
