Nintendo has stepped into the modern age, releasing a dedicated app for its Store for both iOS and Android. It’s a fresh take on its older My Nintendo app and stands on its own from the likes of its parental control or Switch apps.
As the name suggests, it’s all about browsing the company’s games. Perhaps to avoid Apple and Google taking a cut of the proceeds, buying a shiny new download of Donkey Kong Bananaza requires users to complete the transaction outside the app.
What Nintendo has in Store
There’s more than just a catalogue of available Switch and Switch 2 games to browse. One more feature, perhaps the prime one keeping the new app from launching in South Africa right away, is the ability to buy Nintendo systems, peripherals, and other bits and pieces via the smartphone portal.
A wishlist function is included, as is information about upcoming Nintendo events. Finally, there are game statistics, which go deeper than expected. The company’s older consoles signed in to your Nintendo Network ID will display play time, all the way back to the Wii U and the 3DS and its many variants. So what if they’re no longer supported. People are still playing games on them.
The new Store app is available for both Android and iOS devices, but as briefly mentioned, it’s not available here. Perhaps once the local store gets on board, we’ll see it launch in South Africa.
