Just when you thought you’d finally become financially stable, Lego decides to drop what is easily the most detailed — and expensive — bunch of plastic bricks, well, ever. Sure, you’ve seen the Danish brick company’s previous recreations of the iconic Death Star, but have you ever seen one with more than 9,000 pieces?
I find your lack of funds disturbing
Well, now you have. And that’s 9,023 pieces to be exact, covering every minuscule detail of the Death Star seen in Star Wars with 38 minifigures in the box to help you recreate every scene. Or, more accurately, for LegoMe_TheOG to recreate while you grab a bucket of popcorn. Oh, and it’ll set you back $1,000 (∼ R17,700) when it arrives in October, making it Lego’s most expensive set yet. That’s… R160 a piece.
Standing at 70cm tall, 79cm wide, and 26cm deep, it’s not so much a shelf you’ll need, but shelves to keep this badboy standing upright — preferably one that’s out of reach of the little ‘uns. We’re not sure if the Danish brick company is handling returns for this one — especially not one who snivels and drools all over the place.
This time, Lego has ditched the spherical design you’ve seen with the other Death Star sets, choosing instead to cut the monstrous murder weapon right down the middle to give you easier access to all the sets inside, which includes everything from Luke v Darth Vader’s legendary battle in the throne room, to the trash compactor. There’s even a shirtless stormtrooper just chilling in a hot tub. Real ones remember.
Lego Insiders will get access to the set from 1 October, while everyone else will have to wait until 4 October to get their hands on Lego’s most expensive set yet. There’s no telling when Great Yellow Brick, South Africa’s Lego Certified Store, will have it in stock, but judging from past releases, it should be along shortly. Ready those studs.
