No F1 to look forward to? No matter — there’s usually Formula E to keep you company. Where you’ll tune in to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship has already been decided for you, after Disney+ grabbed the global streaming rights this week. It’ll become the de facto streaming home of the races for many, starting in 2026.
Formula E comes to Disney+
It was initially unclear whether South Africa would be included. The House of Mouse’s announcement did mention that the races would be streamed on Disney+ in “most international markets beginning with the 2026/27 season.” We’ve since had confirmation from Disney SA that Saffas will get their eyeballs on it.
“As we enter the GEN4 era, this provides an exceptional platform to accelerate our global growth and continue building one of the world’s most exciting sports properties. We’re also excited by the opportunity to explore additional ways for Formula E and Disney to work together beyond live race coverage, creating even more innovative and engaging experiences for fans in the years ahead,” said Jeff Dodds, Formula E CEO.

If you’re interested, you’ll want to grab yourself a Disney+ subscription. After the conglomerate’s latest hike back in June, that’ll cost R180/m for a monthly Premium sub. If you pay annually, it’ll set you back R1,590 all at once. There’s also a cheaper R50/m ‘Basic’ plan, which caps resolution at 720p (even on the big screen).
If there’s nothing else on Disney’s catalogue to interest you, hold off on that subscription ’til 18 December. That’s when the 2026/27 will officially kick into gear, spanning 21 rounds across 13 events — before coming to a close on 25 July 2027 in Tokyo. As for the current season, ending 16 August… You’ll have to make do, won’t you?
