Lego’s Nintendo sets are frequently decent, and the newly leaked Pokémon: 72154 Iconic Trainer Moments Poké Ball set looks to continue that tradition. Usually, the Danish brick company is very forthcoming about its upcoming products, but for a change, this one appeared via Reddit.
Which means that we can’t be entirely sure that this set is authentic. However, the images provided with the information strongly resemble official imagery used in Lego’s online listings. The pricing estimate is also in the right ballpark for maximum credibility.
Pokémon to the desk
Pricing for this surprisingly complicated Lego Pokémon build puts the set at around R5,000 ($300). That’s about right for a licensed 2,300+ piece build from the company. As for how many pieces there are exactly, that’s a little more in limbo. The imagery shown suggests there will be 2,343 separate components. Previous leaks have put that number at 2,339 or 2,386 pieces.
Whatever the final total is, the Poké Ball set will resemble the iconic red-and-white ball from the TV series and trading card game. It’ll hinge open to show a couple of Pokémon scenes. Professor Oak and a couple of trainers (Ash Ketchum seems to be the chosen hero) will appear. Oak occupies his lab, while the trainers face off with Pikachu and Evee in tow. Knowing Lego (and Nintendo), there will be other easter eggs hidden around the build somewhere.
The leak suggests an official on-sale date of 1 October this year. South Africa tends to have parity with international Lego launches, so expect this one to show up locally at around that time. An official announcement is, at most, a few weeks away.
