A new version of Apple’s newest smartphone, the iPhone Air, could take a little longer than expected to arrive. The handset, announced this year, was supposed to get a sequel in 2026, but according to a report by The Information (via Reuters), it’ll miss that date.
iPhone Air up in the air
The report is largely unsurprising, given that Apple has supposedly changed production priorities for its 2025 smartphone lineup. The Air’s numbers, according to Asian sources, have been scaled back, with more traditional devices taking their place.
This suggests that the iPhone Air isn’t selling as well as expected, something apparently confirmed by The Information‘s unnamed sources. Both Apple and Samsung have launched very slim flagship smartphones this year, to compete with similarly skinny folding devices, as well as Chinese models looking to stand out. It doesn’t appear to be going well.

Samsung’s own take, the Galaxy S25 Edge, may or may not see a sequel. It’s more likely to be folded into the company’s regular Galaxy lineup, taking the place of the base model or the S26+, if the South Korean company doesn’t disappear it completely. Current sales for overly slim smartphones like the Edge and the iPhone Air don’t bode well for the newly announced Huawei Mate 70 Air, either.
As with anything regarding Apple, it’s only official when the company announces it. The American company is one of the few that likes to keep its secrets, but if recent reporting is accurate, an iPhone Air update could be delayed until 2027. Perhaps by then, Grand Theft Auto VI will be out, and we’ll all be too busy to care that Apple’s phone is now 4mm thick.
