You may be waiting for Sony to pay proper attention to the PlayStation 5, but its parents are more interested in the bun in the oven, particularly when that bun is a money-printing machine. According to YouTuber and leaker Moore’s Law is Dead, that bun is the PlayStation 6.
While we’re at it, we’ll confirm that water is, in fact, wet. But Moore’s Law is Dead isn’t just proclaiming that Sony is working on the PlayStation 6 (PS6) behind closed doors because… of course it is. The YouTuber has come out swinging with possible specs, starting price, and even a release window. Until we hear about it from Sony, it’s best to take the news with a pretty big grain of salt.
Consider the PlayStation 6…

Expect Sony to charge you a hefty premium to take the gamble on some new hardware. The leaker puts Sony’s next console around the $500 (∼R9,000) mark, despite potential upgrades to performance, which, if rumours are true, could be significant.
As significant as three times the rasterisation of the original PS5, and at least double what the PS5 Pro is capable of achieving. It’ll feature PS4 and PS5 backwards compatibility (we could’ve got you that), but no word on anything related to the PS3. It reportedly features eight Zen 6 cores, a massive upgrade over the PS5’s Zen 2-based architecture.
Your mind might be throwing up warning lights as you consult both the specs and your wallet to find a cartoon fly leaving the latter and heading to work. Never mind that you only recently bought that PS5, right? What about all the games still in development? Great questions, without any answers. The PS5 has certainly seen some great games, but its true potential has felt squandered in the light of remake upon remake hitting shelves.

It also seems that Sony will couple the PS6 with a dedicated handheld, rumours of which have flown around for years at this point. A proper sequel to the Vita, reportedly codenamed “Canis”, would feature an M.2 SSD slot, touchscreen, microSD slot, proper haptics (think PlayStation Portal), and beats out the current specs of the ROG Xbox Ally X. We should hope so, especially if the rumours of a post-2027 launch are true.
Possibly the most reliable bit of information from Moore’s Law Is Dead’s mouth is the potential 2027-2028 release date. Sony typically schedules its consoles with a seven-year gap, and considering the PS5 only got its start in late 2020, this seems to be the most likely scenario.
As we mentioned, don’t expect confirmation of the PS6 from Sony anytime soon. As for the news from Moore’s Law is Dead, the YouTuber claims to have nabbed the information from a leaked AMD presentation to Sony from 2023. It’s highly possible Sony could shuffle things around by release, namely the price, in the face of Trump’s bizarre tariff war.
