While what seems to be the rest of the world fawns over the ray-traced body sweat and jiggle physics (don’t lie) seen in Rockstar Games’ GTA VI trailer 2, we’re more interested in the news that the company may have a GTA IV remaster or port in the pipeline to hold fans over in light of the series’ delay to May 2026. No complaints here.
Give me Liberty City, or give me death!
It makes sense. For whatever reason, one of Rockstar Games’ best-ever titles is still shackled to the PS3 era of consoles, without any proper support for Niko Bellic’s story on PlayStation. If the words of one Tez2, a notable leaker in the GTA community, are to be believed, the company has a port headed to modern-day consoles, possibly followed up with a return to the world of Max Payne 3.
It’s unclear whether Tez2 was referring to a proper remaster or a simple port of GTA IV, though it appears that the latter is true. Slightly unfortunate, but it’s to be expected, what with most of Rocksta’s employees working on the next mainline entry in the series. Responding to a post in the forums, Tez2 mentions that the GTA VI delay means good things for GTA IV, with ‘development’ plans moving up by about a year internally.

“If they still follow their plan laid out from the pandemic days, they’ll do an MP3 port after IV. So that is an opportunity to do a bundle or a Definitive Edition. Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes, and a Max Payne 3 port.”
Further fuelling the rumours, Rockstar recently took action against the Liberty City Preservation Project (LCPP) that sought to keep the city of Liberty City alive right inside of GTA V. While Rockstar typically take issue with fan-made mods, its actions match those in the months before it released GTA: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition when it took down similar fan-made mods keeping the spirit of those games alive.
