You’d be forgiven for entirely forgetting that Amazon has a South African presence now. Since Bezos’ retail empire launched on South African soil back in May, Takealot has generally upped its game, mainly thanks to its R40/m TakealotMore subscription. Now, it’s launching the Ultimate Checkout sale, mimicking Amazon’s infamous Prime Day sale better than even Amazon could.
Takealot 2, Amazon… 0
There’s no use running to Takealot yet. The sale is expected to kick off on Wednesday, 24 July and will run until Sunday, 28 July. When the sale does eventually roll around, Takealot has promised customers will find deals on the most searched, most wish-listed, highest-rated and even TikTok’s favourite products of the moment.
“The Ultimate Checkout features some of the best deals of the year, all based on an analysis of aggregated behaviour and trends of over 90 million searches, reviews and wish lists from millions of shoppers,” the group said (via MyBroadband).
The retailer won’t be eschewing its daily deals promotions throughout the Ultimate Checkout sale. It’s actually bolstering the deals by bumping the prices down to last year’s Black Friday prices. As for what products might make the cut, however, the group hasn’t offered any hints.

TakealotMore subscribers will also be rewarded for their loyalty, in addition to the benefits already available – including unlimited next-day deliveries (on orders over R500) and various Mr D perks – these customers will receive a “unique” coupon which knocks an extra 20% off the Ultimate Checkout sale. The catch? Discounts can’t exceed R1,000.
These subscribers will also unlock “additional Mr D coupons to enjoy across the Mr D app.”
For the chance to nab all the best deals, customers should visit the company’s Instagram or Facebook pages at 00h01 on 24 July “for an epic kick-off featuring limited edition deals of up to 50% off.”
