Eskom extends Stage 3 load shedding “until further notice”

UPDATE: Earlier today, Eskom confirmed stage 3 load shedding would stick around “until further notice”. Hours later, Eskom has confirmed stage 3 is sticking around until at least Friday. “Stage 3 and 2 load shedding will again be implemented continuously from 16:00 on Friday until 05:00 Monday morning.”

By looking at the image Eskom has supplied, it seems that the only break we’ll be getting is between 05:00 on Friday before stage 3 makes its return at 16:00 on the same day. Stage 2 is back from Saturday morning at 05:00. A further update will be supplied on Sunday unless a major catastrophe occurs before then.

Original Story: Eskom on Thursday morning extended Stage 3 load shedding “until further notice”. And surprise surprise, Kendal and Kriel are part of the problem.

“Due to the failure of 2 units at Kendal Power Station and a unit each at Kriel and Arnot power stations, Stage 3 load shedding has been extended from 05:00 today until further notice,” notes the power utility on Thursday morning.

In a bittersweet turn of events, we were struck with load shedding while writing this up. But thanks to our load-shedding survival guide, we were able to power through.

Earlier this week, Eskom released a schedule for the rest of the week, and we knew it was too good to be true. The utility even had a table with a list of daily stages ranging from Stage 2 to Stage 4.

The “further notice” from Eskom will happen at some point on Thursday. Eskom says it’ll publish a statement (again) on Thursday. Hopefully, this will give you a better idea of how much electricity you won’t be getting as Kendal and Kriel continue to trip.
