Back when LG was still making smartphones, one aspect was always on point — the audio. LG’s Tone Free series of earbuds have continued that trend. The announcement of the company’s newest addition, the Tone Free T90, shows that won’t change any time soon.
The company has announced three sets of buds — there’s the T90, which will take up most of the space here, and then two fitness-focused buds. Both of these — the TF7 and TF8 buds — fall under a new Tone Free Fit umbrella. Both use LG’s UV charging case, feature an IP67 rating (because we know how sweaty exercise can get), and ten hours of battery on a charge. We don’t care who you are, you’re taking a break before that.

The Tone Free T90 buds offer several features already seen in their immediate predecessor. LG has fallen in love with its UVnano charging case, which is supposed to sterilise those things before they go back into your ears. The ability to connect the case to a device that doesn’t have Bluetooth and wirelessly connect through that also returns. Larger drivers and a redesign of the buds themselves supposedly offer increased bass. And then there’s something completely different.

The T90 buds support Dolby Head Tracking, a feature that is apparently wholly new for earbuds. At least, this particular Dolby implementation was supposedly designed for earbuds. The feature “…recalibrates the sound as users move their heads for a more natural sound experience”, according to LG. What’s more, you won’t have to load specific content in order for this to work. It’ll apparently work on any content and on any device you happen to connect your LG T90 Tone Free buds to.
We’ll have to actually use LG’s newest buds before we can make a call on the difference, but Apple and Samsung both offer a form of spatial audio on their existing products. Whether Dolby Head Tracking makes that much of a difference remains to be seen.
