Samsung’s Galaxy MWC 2022 event kicks off on 27 February

Samsung Galaxy MWC Event 2022

Samsung’s doing that thing again when it holds too many events in a short space of time. We may have just had the company’s first Unpacked for the year, but it’s not over. A bare few weeks later, we’re staring down the barrel of Galaxy MWC 2022. Which, at least, isn’t being tagged Unpacked.

But, as usual, Samsung’s attempting to be a little mysterious about what’s up-and-coming. Apparently, the company will use Galaxy MWC 2022 to redefine “…the future of how we work and how we learn.” Ambitious, no?

Exploring a new Galaxy MWC

Just how this’ll be achieved is far from certain. Samsung’s teaser video (above) makes it appear as though the focus will be on devices other than smartphones. This makes sense, since the Galaxy S22 just had its time in the spotlight. But there’s also a space reserved for tablets, in addition to folding phones, wearables, and laptops. To us, that suggests software.

And that’s because Samsung’s not likely to use the event to show off new devices. The company won’t want to shoot its whole mobile hardware load at the beginning of the year. How else is it going to take some attention from whatever Apple announces at the end of 2022? No, Galaxy MWC 2022 will be dedicated to something less important. Software updates, never the sexiest of announcements, give the company a chance to participate in MWC without needing to be the centre of attention.

The wholly virtual keynote takes place on 27 February at 20h00, South African Standard Time. It’ll broadcast on Samsung’s YouTube channel, as well as the company’s website. Hopefully, it’s more interesting than just a new batch of interoperability functions for its various operating systems.
