Trade in your old Samsung for R10,000, even with a cracked display

Samsung

Yesterday, Samsung revealed the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Tab S8 ranges. Expect to see a few new smartphones, one with a stylus, as well as a few tablets – all packed with the latest in mobile tech. And they’re all landing in South Africa on 11 March 2022.

While the brand’s glass sandwiches look similar to the previous generation of flagships, they offer significant hardware upgrades, as well as a few software tweaks. The most interesting of the bunch, the Galaxy S22 Ultra, brings back the Note-worthy S-Pen in the body. It will, however, set you back a massive R29,000.

The other two come in lower. The Galaxy S22 is priced at R20,000, while the S22+ will cost you R23,000. But that doesn’t mean you can quickly access that piggy bank and drop tens of thousands on a brand new slab.

Samsung’s sweet S22 setup

Samsung South Africa has announced that Samsung owners can trade in their old flagships for R10,000, guaranteed. Yup, even if it has a cracked screen, busted edges or a wonky camera.

Of course, there are a few caveats. The offer is only extended to certain devices, including all flagship devices from the Galaxy S10 series onwards (including the Note 10 Lite). The upside is that the phone just has to turn on, and any physical damages will technically be overlooked.

So if you’re an owner of a slightly older Samsung device, and you’re keen on one of the S22 devices, you’ll automatically have R10k shaved off that asking price. This means you can technically get that base model for just R10,000.

If you’re quick to pre-order the S22 Ultra from a few dedicated retailers, the device will come bundled with the Galaxy Buds Pro earbuds (valued at R4,000). The Galaxy S22 and S22+ will come with Galaxy Buds Live, valued at R2,000.

UPDATE: While details on the trade-in programme for the Galaxy S22 range are scarce. Samsung SA’s Justin Hume confirmed that it will be running the programme during its launch event on 9 February 2022. The programme should become available once the devices are available for purchase from 11 March 2022.
