Twitter now lets subscribers display NFTs as hexagon-shaped profile pictures

Twitter NFT profile pics

Everyone and their uncle is talking about NFTs. But what isn’t really discussed is what to do with that Bored Ape once you’ve spent R3 million on it. Twitter’s got an idea — the service has rolled out the ability to set any of the NFTs you own as a profile picture. And, to draw attention to the fact that your profile pic is worth millions, these pictures display in a hexagon. Instead of, you know, a circle.

This isn’t the first time the company’s done something around NFTs. Last year, it gave away a total of 140 NFTs. Twitter has also been working on integrating non-fungible tokens for some time.

Twitter: NFT stan

This new feature isn’t quite a gallery you can use to show off your overpriced JPGs — that’s totally separate (when it’s working correctly). But it’s limited, at least at launch. The feature is only available to Twitter Blue subscribers, for one. The thinking might be that those who can afford to buy NFTs are probably well-heeled enough to pay for Twitter.

And, even for Twitter Blue subscribers, hexagon-shaped NFT profile pics are reserved only for iOS users right now. You’ll also need to be using one of the supported wallets. Eligible, for now, are:

The new feature serves at least two purposes. If you’re a fan of inexplicably valuable digital images, seeing the hexagon will let you know you’re among friends. And if you’re on the other side of the fence, you can just block (or mute) the relentless crypto/blockchain/NFT punting right out of the gate.

Own an NFT and want to show the world on your Twitter account? You’re in luck — the company has a full explainer detailing how to go from regular pleb to diamond-handed god of crypto on the world’s most important communication platform. If you can’t detect the sarcasm, then you’re probably numb from the neck up.
