Telkom launches entry-level, router-free Easy Connect Fibre package in South Africa

Telkom

South African telecommunications provider Telkom has announced the launch of Easy Connect Fibre, a new internet fibre offering. The remarkable thing about it is that it’s month-to-month, meaning there’s no contract lock-in, and it doesn’t utilise a router.

Instead, Telkom installs a WiFi ONT (optical network terminal), which replaces the router you’d normally have to set up. This device provides a connection to several devices at once, so you’ll connect to the web via just about anything.

There are two packages heading to market, for those in supported regions. There’s a 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload option for R300/month, and a 20Mbps/10Mbps choice for R370/month. This comes with free installation and that WiFi ONT we mentioned. We suspect free installation might have some terms and conditions involved. Oh, and the packages are uncapped.

Subscribers who sign up this month also stand to get three-month trial subs to Telkom One Amp and One for Mobile, as well as a couple of other minor freebies.

Makgosi Mabaso, managing executive for broadband solutions for Telkom, said, “Our aim is to give customers more connectivity options without breaking the budget. With Easy Connect, customers stay connected with family and friends within their budgets.”

The company does point out that Easy Connect Fibre is currently limited in terms of availability. Prospective users should check out the company’s coverage map. You know, just to be sure they’re able to snag themselves some sweet sub-R370p/m fibre interwebs.
