YoloBox Pro Review – YOLO, so stream it

YoloBox Pro
Stuff says -
3.5/5

The YoloBox Pro is an all in one live streaming hub. It’s got plenty of ports for your plethora of cams and connectors, all controllable from the touch screen display, and integrated streaming to Facebook Gaming, YouTube and Twitch. With its remarkably simple set-up and easy-to-understand user interface, this would be the perfect device for burgeoning streamers if it weren’t for its hefty R24,000 price tag.

Ease at a price

As mentioned, the YoloBox can do just about anything you need it to for live streams, particularly thanks to all of its input and output ports. These include 3 HDMI ports, a USB Type-A and a Type-C, an SD card reader, a mic input, an instrument input (if you’re musically inclined), an additional Audio-In port, a 3.5mm audio output jack (for headphones), a SIM slot and, naturally, a USB-C charging port. Plus an ethernet input, though wireless options like Wi-Fi connectivity and the aforementioned SIM slot for 4G are available too.

Those are ports-a-plenty right there. You can control camera and audio switching, overlays, chat and more all from the UI. It’s great, easy-to-use, and remarkably useful for streaming events like interviews, lecturers, podcasts, and more.

We wouldn’t recommend this for streaming games though, so if that’s your goal look elsewhere. The reason being there’s no support for dual audio sources, so unless you want to try run your mic audio through your desktop (assuming you’re on PC) and you’re willing to put up with the echo you get from it, you’re going to have to choose between game audio and mic audio for your streams.

That’s the only technical gripe we had with the YoloBox. It performs truly excellently otherwise. Of particular note is the 10,000mAh battery, which made mobile streaming easy and freed up some space on our powerstrip if we needed to plug something else in while streaming.

Honestly, it’s a new streamer’s dream performance-wise. But unless you’re a beginner streamer who also develops software full time or has a family trust to rely on, the R24,000 price tag is a little hard to justify. And that’s without mics or cameras.

YoloBox Pro Verdict

The YoloBox is a fantastic piece of kit. In essence, it works perfectly to deliver high-quality live streams with no hassle or headache, making it perfect for beginners. But its price tag leaves it in a weird spot. We’d only recommend dumping this amount of money on new streaming equipment if you were already heavily invested in the venture, which undoes its noob appeal. And if you’re already established as a streamer, you probably have the kit you need already.
