It’s a fact that mobile platforms live and die by their app support, which means you need mobile developer buy-in. Huawei’s own mobile ecosystem might have been forced on them by a certain orange person but they’re attempting to make a serious go of it. Part of that is the company’s ongoing HMS App Innovation contest — and, if you’re a local dev, you’ve still got some time to get your entry in.
Maxing out mobile developers
Why do you want to do that? Well, Huawei’s giving each region (there are five) a total of $200,000 (a shade under R3 million) as prize money for various categories of app awards. Those categories are: Best App, Best Game, Best Social Impact App, Excellent Student Award, Tech Women’s Award, Best HMS Core Innovation Award, Honorable Mention, and All-Scenario Coverage Award.
You’d be going up against a little over 115 other app developers (so far) in the EMEA region by submitting your Huawei HMS-compatible app before the 5 September closing date. There are individual cash prizes (for single developers up to teams of three) from R44,000 to R220,000 up for grabs, but you’ll need to submit your app (which must be under 200MB) via the Huawei Developers website (which you’ll have to sign up to, obviously) before the deadline.
Winners will be announced in October this year and will receive cash prizes, will be featured on Huawei’s AppGallery, and contestants will also be in line for various development courses.
