When you spend R12,000 on something, you would expect to find at least something small for mahala in the bag, right? While that doesn’t happen with the PlayStation 5, Apple’s been generous enough to gift every PS5 owner (in supported countries, of which South Africa is one) six months of Apple TV+ for free.
That’s… longer than the three-month trial period Apple device buyers get, so feel special! If you own a PS5 console, that is. Unfortunately, the special offer doesn’t apply to any other consoles (PS4, PS3 or any competitors).
The offer applies both to newcomers to the streaming service and existing subscribers. However, if you received Apple TV+ through a bundle, like with Apple One, you won’t be eligible for your six months free, unfortunately.
How to exploit Apple TV+ legally
If you have a PS5 console sitting majestically on your TV cabinet (or desk), there are a few steps to follow before you can watch season two of Ted Lasso.
You’ll have to redeem the free offer through the Apple TV app on the PS5 console. Head over to the ‘media’ tab and find the correct app — download that app and head into it.
There, you’ll follow the prompts to sign in using an Apple ID or register for a new one (if you’re not in that ecosystem yet). We faced a few issues when trying to redeem the promo last night, and found that the Apple TV app had to download and install and then update in order to automatically redeem the promo. So make sure you have the most recent version of the app downloaded.
Otherwise, you should be set! If you face any issues, Sony says you should contact Apple support, so do that. The offer is valid until July 2022.
