Samsung’s bringing its newest tech to market earlier than ever before, with its new Everyday Epic Unpacked set to reveal its first batch of mobile tech on 14 January this year. At the same time Samsung was confirming the event, it was also springing a couple of leaks.
Specifically, its new Galaxy Buds Pro are out in the wild already. Before they’re officially announced, they’ve been unboxed and tested — because apparently people are selling the company’s newest ‘buds on Facebook. Also seen is Samsung’s new S-series compatible S Pen, as well as the holster for it: a case that’ll hold the stylus in the absence of a dedicated in-device slot.
(Over)writing an everyday epic
Samsung’s S Pen has been rumoured to be making the jump to the company’s S-series handsets and the current leak makes it seem more likely than ever. German website WinFuture has a closer look at the stylus (above), which looks more or less identical to the sort of tech that hides inside Samsung’s Notes.
And because it’d be silly to sell you a stylus and expect you to keep it in a pocket, there’s also a new case that holds the S Pen when it’s not in use. Which is also why the new stylus doesn’t have that clicky bit you might have spent too much time playing with in the past. There may be other models of the case upcoming, also designed to hold the stylus. That’ll have to wait until 14 Jan. But pricing… won’t. International pricing is also out in the open, for the S Pen at least. It’ll retail for about $50, or around R750. Of course, international costs are never an indication of local pricing but we’d be surprised if it cost more than R1,000 here at home.
Losing your Buds
Also due to be announced at the Everyday Epic event are Samsung’s newest wireless earbuds. The Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro leaked last year but they’ve gone all-out for 2021. Rather than just images or specs, the entire thing has appeared on the internet… thanks to the magic of Facebook, it seems. They’re already on sale on social media.
As such, early unboxings and hands-on videos have been appearing online, way in advance of Samsung’s official announcements. If you’re looking for a bunch of details, the Galaxy Buds Pro should land with ‘Intelligent Active’ noise cancelling, eight hours of battery (when listening to music) on a charge, an IPX8 rating (over the IPX4 of previous outings) and will carry a $200 (R3,000) price tag. Which doesn’t explain much here in SA — the Galaxy Buds Live cost $170 (R2,600 or so) in the States but were R4,000 at launch in South Africa.
