This little Raspberry Pi 400 is a keyboard but also a computer

We all know that one person who can’t stop tinkering with tiny little computers and gizmos. We are those people. Which is why this little Raspberry Pi keyboard is any tinkerer’s dream gadget. You know, because you always end up rummaging through old tech to find a keyboard to control your Raspberry Pi. 

So this time, Raspberry Pi came up with an ingenious solution to this non-issue — the mini PC is built directly into a little keyboard. Called the Raspberry Pi 400, the new machine packs a quad-core 1.8GHz Broadcom processor, 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, a gigabit Ethernet port, two USB 3.0 ports, a USB 2.0 port and two micro-HDMI ports. That’s… a lot of ports for such a small gadget.

It’s also got space for a microSD card around the back of the keyboard, as well as a horizontal 40-pin GPIO header that can be used to connect accessories. But wait. THere’s obviously even more packed into the strangest little computer we’ve seen. It also supports Bluetooth 5.0 as well as dual-band Wi-Fi up to 802.11ac and is powered through a standard USB-C connection. 

Although we have no indication of local availability, we’re holding thumbs to see this little Pi available in SA. We’ve gotten most of the previous Raspberry Pi products available locally, so the same should be true for this one. 

According to global pricing, the Raspberry Pi 400 should be relatively affordable for a little computer — starting at $70 for the standalone device, going up to $100 for the full kit. The full kit includes a 16GB microSD card that’s preprogrammed with Raspberry Pi OS, a mouse and power supply, a micro-HDMI to HDMI cable and a beginner’s guide.
