Windows 10 is getting better with a GIF search and improved voice typing

You have Windows 10. I have Windows 10. That guy who only buys Apple products probably has a secret laptop running Windows 10 that he’s too ashamed to tell anyone about. It’s become so common in our every day lives that we sometimes forget that it can be a bit, well, less than great would be a charitable way of phrasing it. Actually, that’s not fair Windows 10 started off rocky but it’s pretty decent now! Still, there’s always room for improvement, which is exactly what the next update for Microsoft’s operated system is planning to accomplish. Following the latest update, Windows 10 will boast some improved features and even a whole new mode of communication…

If you count GIFs as a unique way of talking with people, that is. A blog post written by Microsoft Senior Program Manager Brandon LeBlanc mentions some of the improvements coming to Windows 10, including an integrated GIF system and improvements to the voice typing feature. While both are in beta at the moment, the update’s main goal is to provide users with more robust ways to communicate with either text or voice.

The GIFs integrated into the system are pulled from the Tenor database, which has a pretty respectable library of GIFs to choose from. All you need to do to send a GIF is type “WIN + [.] and WIN + [;]” and browse until you find the one you’re looking for.

Voice typing on the other hand has been drastically improved with auto-punctuation and optimisation for touch keyboards. Back-end updates will keep program running faster than expected and constantly improve its response time, all handy things to keep improving on.

There’s no specific timeline for when we can expect these to hit our computers (unless you’re an internal beta tester and, I’m taking a guess here, you’re probably not. One has to expect them out in the next few months so get ready to update your Windows with a decent reason to not put it off again.
