Microsoft announces South African launch, pricing for Surface Pro 7, Surface Laptop 3

We’ve all been super-keen on officially having Microsoft Surface products in South Africa… well, since they were first announced. At long last, we’ve gotten our wish. Microsoft’s made good on its May 2020 announcement and has announced the launch of the Surface range in South Africa — starting with the Surface Pro 7 and the Surface Laptop 3, which’ll be available in both 13.5in and 15in sizes.

Yes, this means you can now buy Surface products in South Africa and you don’t have fuss around with importers and ship your kit overseas if something goes wrong with it. Instead you’ll be able to get them via Incredible Connection or Vodacom, should you feel the urge to scratch the Surface.

Surface Pro 7

The Surface Pro 7 will be available in SA in Platinum or Matte Black, along with the Type Cover needed to turn this powerful 12.3in touchscreen slate into a fully-functional notebook. It certainly has the processing grunt for it, packing up to a Core i7 Intel processor into its under-800g frame. Along with that is between 4GB and 16GB of RAM, Intel UHD (for the i3 model) or Intel Iris (for the i5 and i7) graphics, and four SSD options from 128GB to 1TB. Each step up will, obviously, push the price up a little.

Speaking of prices, the Microsoft Surface Pro 7 starts from R18 000. They’re available in SA from 29 July, via Vodacom and Incredible Connection

Surface Laptop 3

The other major Surface product launching is the Surface Laptop 3, which’ll land in SA in both the 13.5in and the 15in PixelSense Display configurations. In case the name isn’t enough of a giveaway, the Surface Laptop 3 is a laptop, featuring between 8GB and 16GB of RAM (both size options), Core i5 and i7 Intel processors for the 13in model and AMD Ryzen 5 3580U or Ryzen 7 3780U chipsets for the 15in version. Yes, you can game using the 15in Surface Laptop 3.

Storage options are the same as with the Surface Pro 7: 128GB, 256GB, 512GB or 1TB SSDa. As with the Surface Pro 7, all models run Windows 10 Home.

Which brings us to pricing and availability. The Surface Laptop 3 starts at R23 000 for the 13.5in model. Microsoft’s Surface Laptop 3 lands from 29 July.
