Apple announces new MacBook Air, features improved keyboard and more storage

The announcement of the new MacBook Air came this afternoon as Apple essentially confirmed all of the leaks hinting at the device’s specs. While this new model certainly seems like a step ahead for the Air series, just wait until you get a look at this thing’s price tag.

You can’t trust all leaks but you can apparently trust a few of them. Such is the case with Apple’s latest announcement of a brand new MacBook Air, the ultra sleek and very stylish laptop that’s come to be known around the world as that device every designer wants but can’t afford. While the price has certainly not been improved, the rest of the MacBook Air has certainly seen some marked improvements.

The biggest, and probably best, improvement is the return to a scissor-switch keyboard like the MacBooks of old rather than that inefficient and shoddy butterfly keyboard most of the more current models have been running. Beyond the actually functional keyboard, this new Air also boasts a 10th-gen Intel processors and up to a 1.2GHz quad-core Core i7. It also features an Intel Iris Plus Graphics card, which improves the machine’s graphical performance by 80% (whatever that means).

It also comes with a minimum of 256GB of storage, twice the amount of the old MacBook Air, and can be boosted all the way up to 2TB. It will also house “advanced stereo speakers for immersive, wide stereo sound for activities like watching Apple TV+ content or playing games in Apple Arcade.” Gotta make sure people know you can actually play some games on this thing.

Of course, if you plan on doing that you’ll have to have some deep pockets because the entry level price for this new MacBook Air is $999, or roughly R16 996,19 at the time of writing. Sure, compared to the Pro it’s much cheaper but you could also find a device with specs vastly superior to the one offered by this MacBook Air for the same price. Still, we’re sure those fans of the Air series will no doubt be pleased with this latest entry.
