The current season in Fortnite, — Chapter 2, Season 2 — should have come to an end on 30 April. And kind of like lockdown, Epic Games has decided to extend it. Season 3 will, according to a tweet, only be revealed on 4 June.  That means Season 2 will run for several more weeks, and Epic is planning a lot of new content in the current season. “We have multiple game updates on the way that will deliver fresh gameplay, new Challenges, bonus XP, and a couple more surprises up our sleeve!” Epic said in a blog post. While we were all eating Easter eggs on Friday last week (if you didn’t have any, — thoughts and prayers go out to you), Google and Apple announced a partnership we never thought we’d see in our lifetime. The two tech moguls decided the ongoing pandemic is reason enough to pool all their resources.  It’s kind of like if Superman and Iron Man put their differences aside (like being from different publishers) to fight a universal evil. In this case, the evil is COVID-19, if you didn’t pick up on that.  Why team up though? The tech companies want to…

Because we’re all stuck at home now, online services across the board have started waiving subscription fees. You know, we need to keep busy somehow, and from fitness to online courses, many have made their services free for the time being.  Now Google Stadia has decided to make its cloud gaming service free for two months. The offer is rolling out over the next 48 hours to the 14 countries where the service is supported, as long as users have a Gmail account. Unfortunately, however, South Africa isn’t listed as one of those 14 countries… New users can go ahead…

We know you’re spending more time than you’d like in front of the TV. Same goes for the little ones — we need to keep ‘em busy somehow, right? Which is why Netflix has expanded the parental controls on its streaming service. Parents can now have even more control over what content their children consume. This includes the ability to completely remove certain movies/shows that aren’t necessarily appropriate and the ability to set a PIN on specific profiles.  Parents can also now review a child’s viewing history and disabling autoplay of episodes, which will help limit their overall screentime. They…

There has never been a better time to invest in a new virtual best friend than right now. Self-isolation can get… pretty lonely. And this Google-made voice-controlled doughnut has made it socially acceptable to talk to your house. A while ago we tried out the Google Nest Hub, and the only problem we had with it is that we don’t have enough Googles to fill the house. The Google Home Mini is the perfect addition to any smart home. It’s cheap, small and easy to link to an existing setup.  This little puck can do everything its big bro can…

There isn’t a worse time to spread misinformation. Peeps need to know what’s going on it the world, and misinformation about COVID-19 can lead to people getting really sick. Which is why WhatsApp’s here to help mitigate the spread of misinformation.  Like the efforts to limit the spread of coronavirus, we need to limit the spread of bogus stories about the coronavirus (like this one). If you get a message that’s been forwarded more than five times, WhatsApp has ensured you’ll only be able to forward it to one person at a time. We feel like this is a good…

It’s weird that, if you wanted to video call someone ten years ago, you would turn to Skype. Not only was it one of the only options. It worked most of the time and no-one questioned security. Now people are flooding to Zoom as the video conference platform of choice. But is it safe? In the past weeks, Zoom has faced several privacy and security concerns. Some businesses like SpaceX has informed employees not to use the software. Some have turned to alternatives like Teams or BlueJeans. But the truth is that Zoom can be very secure. You just need…

Okay, good readers. Apparently we’ve come to a point where people look to reputable news sources to debunk conspiracy theories. And following recent reports that 5G towers are causing the recent COVID-19 outbreak, we’ve decided to do the honourable thing and show you the real facts. Not the YouTube facts, Karen.  On that point, YouTube has announced that it will start limiting the number of videos that spread rumours about the 5G/COVID-19 conspiracy. Good on them. “The company said it will remove videos that violate its policies. It may allow other conspiracy-themed content about 5G which doesn’t mention the coronavirus…

Let the lockdown issue commence. Lonely, lonely, lonely humans of South Africa, hear this. Following the announcement of Pres Cyril Ramaphosa, the country went into an unprecedented state of self-isolation. This has caused major delays in our print production schedule. While we have a stunning load shedding survival guide issue stuck in its own isolation at the printers, we decided to knock out the self-isolation guide: A wholly digital edition of your favourite tech magazine.  Our new digital-only edition of Stuff will be available for digital download across a few platforms, but most importantly, you can get one right now…
