Nothing really beats the hype of the annual Call of Duty lead-up. It’s something I look forward to every year, more so than most other games planned to launch. This one’s special too. It’s launching on a next-gen console year, and those don’t come around very often. I spent some time with Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War multiplayer beta, and I’m still not sure in which format to write it. Bringing out a new shooter this year means that there was probably increased pressure on developers to make this one as good as possible. Bring out the big…

Looking at Apple’s recent iPhone 12 announcement, it seems the company has actively been working on mitigating the risk of a crack here and there. With its newly co-developed Ceramic Shield display, it is hoping larger cracks will be a thing of the past. Thing is… it can still break. And this is how much you’ll probably pay to fix one of those bad boys. One of the terrible responsibilities that come with owning our own little pocket computers/trackers is the maintenance cost. If you’re set with decent enough insurance on your smartphone, this shouldn’t be an issue. But come…
In an unexpected but welcome reveal, Apple graced us with a brand new iPad this year at the first of its year-end events in September. It wasn’t your typical lineup of iPads — this time we got a glimpse at the new iPad Air. And we’re here for it. And we’re here for the local pricing for the device, which was revealed earlier today. Revealed as the headliner of the night, the iPad Air comes in an array of colours from Rose Gold to the new Green and Sky Blue hues. It has lost a few curves, features a bright…
It’s no secret that here at Stuff, we’re particularly fond of Fujifilm’s X-range of mirrorless kit. But the top-tier runs well into the tens of thousands if you’re keen on buying one. Fujifilm has been good at making the range more affordable, with the launch of the entry-level X-A7 (R12,000), the impressive X-T200 (also R12,000) and the more robust X-Pro3 that comes in at R24,000. A new entry into the mirrorless market, Fujifilm’s X-S10 is the first in its mid-range to feature In-Body Image Stabilisation (IBIS) tech and starts at R18,000 for the body only. X-S10 doesn’t mean extra small…
Gadgets are getting smaller, but more powerful, unlike our mid-sections after lockdown. Luckily, we had the chance to comfortably sit on the couch with the Asus ExpertBook B9 resting on that mid-section. And it didn’t even make a dent. Is it ‘the lightest business notebook around’? Right now, we agree. Until someone proves us wrong. It weighs less than a kilogram, is powered by an Intel 11th Gen processor (i5 or i7), Intel Iris Xe graphics card and two SSDs. How did they manage to fit all of this into the smallest frame imaginable? Sorcery’s our best guess. Of course,…
Many may have decided to drop Zoom as a chosen video conferencing platform after reports of security issues. The redemption arc? The company has actively worked to bolster security for both free and paid accounts, and it’s finally rolling out an end-to-end encryption preview… with a few limitations. The new security feature will roll out next week (i.e. mid- to end-October). It’s important to note that Zoom wasn’t completely unencrypted before this, featuring AES 256-bit GCM encryption in calls, chat and video. But these encryption keys were generated right on Zoom‘s servers, meaning hackers could easily target them and listen…
After what felt like a lifetime, Apple finally decided to draw back the curtains for a proper look at its new iPhone lineup for the year. And this time, we’re spoilt for choice! The most intriguing of the new lineup is likely the one most people will be interested in acquiring. If you’re a fan of smaller handsets and can’t stand how everything seems to become larger year-on-year, the iPhone 12 Mini will be your go-to. Keen on the base model that may not break the bank? There’s the iPhone 12 for ya. Then you get to the top-tier bois,…
We’ve covered our fair share of Ring security kit, but one thing’s always been missing – local availability. Although it’s not that much of a schlep ordering kit online, it’s just far more convenient having it right here on our doorstep. We’re happy to announce Ring security cams are officially available in SA, and we have local pricing on some of the products. Maybe we’ll get the flying security guard soon? All of Ring’s security products are fitted with HD cameras and connect directly to smartphones using the Ring app. There hasn’t really been another brand in SA that has…
We regularly report on all of the advancements of tech in an ever-changing industry. But, how will most of it help drive sustainability on our planet? That’s exactly what Google’s parent company Alphabet’s X lab is working on with its new agriculture venture. Officially named Mineral, the project focuses on advancing technology in the agriculture industry to help increase sustainable farming. That means applying a variety of hardware and software to figure out exactly what plants need to grow optimally while using as little resources like land, water and nutrients as possible. The Mineral buggy Now, Mineral has revealed a…
