My gamertag is more useful than a business card. I write about the tech industry, hardware, software, games, and motoring.

We’re still on the fence about the reasoning behind tech leaks. Do companies purposefully leak information to create buzz, or are there just genuinely scaly people working for these companies? Either way — we’ve got new inside information about this year’s Apple iPhones. According to reports on AppleInsider, Apple quietly filed a patent detailing how new iPhones will be able to tell that you want to take a picture. Once it has this information, it’ll automatically open the camera for your convenience. This doesn’t really surprise us, considering that Apple is working with Sony on some long distance 3D cameras.…

Soon you’ll be able to #MuteRKelly without waiting for anyone else to intervene on your behalf. Okay, and mute any other artists you don’t want contaminating your musical sanctuary called Spotify. Music streaming service Spotify is working on a feature that will enable users to block any artist. According to a report by Thurrot, who has access to Spotify’s beta program on iOS, you won’t even be able to play the artist’s songs from their profile. The…

As we all know, Facebook acquired WhatsApp in 2014, and it’s grown in popularity — enough to take the top spot from Facebook. But the reality is that many are opting to leave Facebook after a range of data scandals. And the social platform has had its head on the chopping board for quite a while now. On the other hand, WhatsApp (the popular messaging service) has only grown…

So, Netflix US is getting more expensive, you say? Well, Netflix users in South Africa won’t see a price hike just yet. A new report by The Guardian mentions that Netflix US is raising monthly subscription prices with between 13% and 18%. The increase comes after Netflix has invested a lot of money they don’t technically have in new content to keep newcomers on the streaming scene at bay. The announcement didn’t backfire too badly though — their shares rose as investors saw this as a great way to increase revenue. More money = happier investors. Netflix also doesn’t seem…

Eight-part South African crime-drama The Girl from St. Agnes just dropped its first trailer. It’s dark, mysterious and darn proud of that South African English accent. Some people feel about South African series how parents feel about Justin Bieber. But local streaming service Showmax wants to change the way people think about proudly South African content. Following in the footsteps of Netflix, the Naspers-owned streaming service has started creating its own original shows. The Girl from St. Agnes is the second original, following Tali’s Wedding Diary — a mockumentary featuring Suzelle DIY creator Julia Anastasopoulos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bll58ZTzFXA&feature=youtu.be The Girl from St. Agnes is…
