My gamertag is more useful than a business card. I write about the tech industry, hardware, software, games, and motoring.

Japanese company Shueisha publishes some of the most well-know manga in the world (think Dragon Ball, My Hero Academia, One Piece and Tokyo Ghoul), and they’ve just launched a new app, called Manga Plus, to make English manga more accessible worldwide. It’s built round the idea that readers will be on-par with Japanese manga releases. And if that doesn’t work for you, you also have access to a similar digital service called Shonen Jump, which works on a subscription basis (think Netflix for manga) and is operated by American company Viz Media. Manga Plus Manga Plus launched this weekend in the…

Just imagine a single app where you could go for all your messaging needs. Okay, it doesn’t sound so much convenient than it does unnecessary — but it may be coming. Facebook plans to integrate WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Instagram messages, according to a new report. Doing so will allow users to send messages between the three networks, even if they’re not on all of them. A report in the New York Times features Facebook chief executive and possible reptilian Mark Zuckerberg on his plans to integrate his services. The NYT article mentions that Facebook plans to rewrite the basic…

While Apple CarPlay’s been available in South Africa for a while, Android Auto only officially made its way to South Africa earlier this year. Japanese car maker Mazda this week announced that certain models in its lineup will now support both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There’s one catch though, if you’re a Mazda owner and keen on connecting your mobile phone to your car via Apple or Android’s solutions you’ll have to have it retrofitted at a cost. The kit can be retrofitted to any Mazda2, Mazda3, Mazda CX-3 and Mazda CX-5 model that has a factory fitted MZD…

We would be lying if we told you we weren’t expecting this… but not necessarily so soon. What with Apple ditching the headphone jack, and many phone designers opting for in-display fingerprint sensors — it’s obvious that phones will soon be all-screen, all-wireless and… all sci-fi. Two announcements in China this week produced devices that are, for lack of a better word, holeless. The Meizu Zero and Vivo Apex are both devoid of physical ports, be it for USB-charging, a headphone jack or even speakers. If you look closely, there are a couple of holes for microphones… but none you…

Another day, another leak — and this time it’s the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10 in the flesh… er… components? A tweet from Twitter user Ben Geskin shows what purports to be the new S10 with a hole-punch display and some interesting software we’ve not seen before: Samsung’s blockchain wallet. dubbed the ‘Samsung Blockchain KeyStore’ it appears to be a digital wallet for (you guessed it), your cryptocurrency. Keep you crypto contained https://twitter.com/VenyaGeskin1/status/1088105968892891136 According to the leaked images, the native cryptocurrency wallet app is a “secure and convenient place for your cryptocurrency,” and will likely offer users the ability to store…

Here at Stuff we live and breathe cool stuff (get it?) — and we’ve stumbled upon an intriguing device that we think every person should own. It’s a multi-purpose five-in-one dongle. That’s right — count on us to excited about dongles. And short cables, but that’s another saga.  The High Five is a crowdfunded keyring-cable that is made by Vonmählen, a new smartphone accessory company. The company claims that their device is the “world‘s first 5-in-1 charging cable”. The Frankencable The keychain-sized cable is effectively two types of dongles in one configuration. First, it’s a normal USB-C jack to a hybrid…

FNB

FNB has added support for QR code payments using the FNB mobile app. The feature is aimed both at consumers (people who scan-to-buy) and at businesses (those who receive payments via scanning). Given the popularity of Snapscan and Zapper in South Africa, the appeal is obvious. The only catch is that both the parties in a transaction need to be FNB clients to create or scan the QR codes… for now at least. FNB’s already got a great person-to-person payments solution in the form of GeoPay, but QR codes are better suited to businesses and don’t require the recipient to have…
