I completed a Masters Degree just so someone might take my opinions seriously one day. Also writes about video games over at Critical Hit.

Okay, let’s get one thing straight before we dive into this. Dungeons and Dragons is cool now. While many will probably recognise the game from it’s portrayal as something overtly nerdy and lame in mainstream American high school movies, we’re here to tell you that’s changed. D&D, as it’s often referred to by players, has exploded in recent years with podcasts and TV series like Critical Role, The Adventure Zone, Community and Harmon Quest popularising the table-top role-playing game. Honestly, there’s nothing quite like it. Sitting together with a group of friends and embarking on an epic story together can lead to all kinds…

Labelled as the game’s story trailer, it certainly feels like an apology of sorts for all those people desperately avoiding all the leaks and spoilers that made their way out onto the internet a few days ago. There’s a lot of hype surrounding The Last of Us Part II. The sequel to arguably Sony’s most important game, the original having received some of the most overwhelmingly popular and critical praise of the previous generation, the follow up to the beautifully tragic story of Ellie and Joel is almost upon us, is releasing on 19 June 2020. To satiate fans desperately…

Metro Goldwyn Meyer, one of the most iconic and well known film production studios in the world, has signed a deal with Vodacom to bring their collection of series and movies to the service provider’s video streaming app Video Play. These include James Bond, The Hobbit and a heap of popular series such as The Handmaid’s Tale. The set for this presumably massively expensive film will be the constantly orbiting International Space Station. If this movie sees the light of day it’ll be the first production to ever actually be filmed in space, which will certainly be cool for everyone involved but will it seem all that different to audiences? Humans love a spot of sci-fi. It’s such a broad genre filled with exciting visions into the future that allow us to better understand the present. Films like Gravity and Interstellar were praised for their (generally) accurate renditions of cosmic exploration but those phonies never even left the atmosphere! Tom Cruise doesn’t want to…

The country is slowly starting to unlock its doors again. MTN has announced that it is opening up stores nationwide but that doesn’t mean they’re going easy on the sanitation. The company has put in place serious precautions to keep customers safe. When South Africa went into a country wide lockdown, MTN stores all sighed a painful breath as over 80% of their stores temporarily closed in accordance to government policy. It wasn’t ideal for MTN customers, many of whom were left high and dry by the lack of brick-and-mortar stores offering customer support. With level 4 lockdown restrictions incorporated…

While VR is being touted as as having finally arrived at the level of quality that was promised for years, if you ask us there’s still a lot of work that needs doing. Very few games really manage to capitalise on the appeal of virtual reality but one that went above and beyond was Vader Immortal, an experience that took full advantage of the medium and the Star Wars license to deliver an experience that was utterly exhilarating. Unfortunately, it was a VR title limited exclusively to Oculus devices…until now. Announced yesterday as a part of a Star Wars Day…

Buckle up, folks. This is gonna be a rough one. Special warning to those folks that use Xiaomi devices because this news will make you more than a little concerned. Cyber security researcher Gabi Cirlig revealed to Forbes that Xiaomi’s default browser, used by millions, is secretly tracking and farming user’s personal data. Beyond the default browser, Xiaomi’s external browsers that have shipped on the Google Play Store, Mi Browser Pro and the Mint Browser, have been caught doing exactly the same thing, meaning nearly every owner of a Xiaomi device could have personal data gathered and sent to remote servers,…
