While VR is being touted as as having finally arrived at the level of quality that was promised for years, if you ask us there’s still a lot of work that needs doing. Very few games really manage to capitalise on the appeal of virtual reality but one that went above and beyond was Vader Immortal, an experience that took full advantage of the medium and the Star Wars license to deliver an experience that was utterly exhilarating. Unfortunately, it was a VR title limited exclusively to Oculus devices…until now.
Announced yesterday as a part of a Star Wars Day celebration, developer ILMxLAB confirmed that Vader Immortal will make the jump over to PlayStation VR. The game, initially released in an episodic format, will gather its three installments into a single package for the PlayStation system. No price has been announced yet but one has to imagine that it won’t be too expensive…right?
Vader Immortal places players in the shoes of an unlucky smuggler drawn into the sinister plans of Darth Vader and the evil Galactic Empire. Written by acclaimed screenwriter David S. Goyer, the story is in fact canonical with the current Star Wars timeline, meaning that all the events that transpire in Vader Immortal may be referenced in future Star Wars material.
