You mention the phrase “most powerful double cab bakkie” and all of a sudden three quarters of South Africa becomes mentally aroused. Volkswagen knows this, and thus they’re obviously very pleased to announce that the new 190kW Amarok double cab bakkie is now available in South Africa.
The new Amarok sports a 3.0-litre V6 190kW TDI engine, which generates 25kW more than the outgoing 3.0 -litre model. All of that juice is channeled through an eight-speed automatic gearbox and generates 580 Newton metres of torque at 4,500 RPM. What this all means is that this new model is the fastest Amarok on the market, capable of hitting 100km/h in 7.6 seconds and managing a top speed of an 207km/h. Of course, that does mean it will be guzzling 9.5 litres of fuel every 100km.
Amarok your world
It”s not just an improved engine. The new Amarok is equipped with the bells and whistles you need and, more importantly, want. Off road ABS, stability control and four disc brakes, one for each wheel, ensures the Amarok is as safe it could possibly be. It’s also an incredibly chunky boy, with the largest bin, loading width and cabin in its class.
Of course, the biggest question is how much this new monster is going to cost you. Well, the recommended retail price for the Amarok Double Cab 3.0 V6 190kW – Highline is R921 900 while the Amarok Double Cab 3.0 V6 190kW Extreme will set you back R996 000. Pricey stuff but if you’re a fan of solid, all-purpose bakkies then you’re no doubt already thinking of taking out that loan.
