Nixon’s got the first Android Wear smartwatch for the seriously sporty

Surfing, snow boarding, scuba diving – not normally the things you’d expect an Android Wear smartwatch to survive.

The Nixon Mission has got you covered, though – it’s the world’s first Android Wear watch built to survive a dunking down to 100m, and the first with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon Wear 2100 CPU inside.

That should mean battery life that lasts longer than the current generation of Android Wear watches, and a build that won’t crap out on you when the conditions take a turn for the worse.

Revealed at Basel World in Switzerland yesterday, the Mission is a chunky timepiece in subtle black and grey colours – plus an attention-grabbing orange hue in case you want your wrist to stand out from a mile away.

It’s a no-compromise Android Wear watch underneath the polycarbonate and stainless steel casing, though. You get a completely round AMOLED display (none of that Moto 360-style flat tyre nonsense here), protected by Gorilla Glass.

When you hit the slopes or the surf, Mission’s custom Android Wear app puts live info about the current conditions on the watch face.

It’s also got a custom activity tracker built by Trace, one of the biggest names in action sport fitness tracking.

Otherwise, it ticks all the usual Android Wear boxes – notifications, step tracking, music controls and call answering, all from your wrist.

There’s no word on a price yet, but the Mission should be coming later this year in multiple colours. Like to stand out even more? You’ll be able to customise one through Nixon’s website.
