The Apple rumour mill has restarted and current speculation on Apple’s new iPad, which comes by way of iLounge, is that the so-called iPad 5 will be smaller than its predecessors.
The ‘iPad 5’ is rumoured look more like the iPad Mini than Apple’s previous tablets, featuring a 9.7″ display that has had the bezels thinned down on the left and right sides. iLounge’s Editor-in-chief Jeremy Horwitz, who claims to have seen a “supposedly accurate” physical model of the fifth-generation iPad, has said that “…it’s noticeably thinner, as well, which is to say the the fifth-generation iPad will be smaller in every dimension than its predecessors.”
Other rumours regarding an iPhone 5S and a new iPad Mini from Apple are also doing the rounds. A processor upgrade is expected for the iPhone 5S, according to sources, as is a larger rear flash and possibly Sony’s 13 megapixel sensor. A new iPad Mini, which is essentially the same as the current version but with a Retina display (possibly one of Sharp’s IGZO units), has also been mentioned.
The unconfirmed information slates July this year for the release of the iPhone 5S and October for the iPad 5 and second iPad Mini. There is also talk of a cheaper, plastic-encased iPhone that could be sold in emerging markets but there are relatively few details available concerning such a device.
