Samsung’s Galaxy Fold 8 has barely finished being unloaded from the truck, and Fold 9 rumours have already started. Details from a blogger in South Korea offer suggestions about what might be coming, but there’s nothing concrete yet.
According to writer Lanzuk on the Naver blog, Samsung is attempting two model combinations for a wide foldable follow-up. The report suggests there will be two wide foldables in 2027, but it doesn’t offer any insight as to whether there will be another Fold Ultra model.
Choose a Fold 9
The rumour involves model names and little else. The South Korean company is deciding between either a Fold 9 sequel and a ‘Plus model, or it’ll opt for a cheaper FE as a backup for the broader foldable. The company only intends to pick one of the two, meaning we could see either a pricier or a cheaper foldable along with (maybe) the more vertical Ultra follow-up.
The split is obvious. A Plus-sized foldable would have a larger internal display — how much larger isn’t known. Going the FE route would keep the two phones physically identical. It would strip out some premium specs for cheaper components. Both have their attractions, but only one will make the cut.
Or, possibly, neither. It’s too early in the cycle to be sure that Samsung has committed to a third foldable for its next launch. The Galaxy Fold 8 turned up in August this year, giving the company several months before it has to lock down its choices. We’d pick affordability, so it’s possible to actually own one. However, something that competes more closely with a tablet would also be an interesting choice.
