Not every video game is educational, but education can lead to careers in video games. PUBG Mobile owner Krafton is presently running its Rising Designer programme in Africa for the second year. At stake are two internships for African designers. The catch? You don’t have much time to get involved.
The application cutoff is 1 September. There are a couple of steps to take, one of which is entering the company’s Ultimate Set Design Contest. If you manage to win that, and part of its attendant $100,00 prize pool, you might not be so concerned with an internship.
Designs on a PUBG career?
If you’re after a more steady income, success with the Rising Designer programme will lead to “paid internships at leading design studios across the continent.” There are only two of these available in 2026, but your odds might be better than you think. The company expects to have around 100 entries by the 1 September deadline. The competition should still be stiff, but at least there aren’t thousands of them.

South African designers looking to get into games have limited time, but a surprisingly easy process. If you don’t count the design work, that is. The main competition entry is required. After that, there’s a Google Form where additional details — like educational institute, Discord ID, and PUBG ID — are requested. If you don’t complete both steps (before 1 September), you’re not in the running.
