Samsung hasn’t met any tech it didn’t like. Its audio in particular has been leaping ahead. We’ve got theories about why that is, but the South Korean company wouldn’t like them much. Still, if it means more headphones to fiddle with, we’re not about to complain. A new rumour indicates that’s just what’s coming.
And not in the company’s already excellent in-ear category, either. The folks at SamMobile have unearthed something in the Galaxy Wearable app suggesting we can expect over-ear headphones from Samsung soon.
Samsung, can you over-ear me?
As usual with an app leak, the information arises in the form of new icons. These, specifically, show over-ear headphones rather than a set of buds. Also typically, there’s no sign of the headphones’ other capabilities beyond Bluetooth — which they’d need to connect to the app. But SamMobile reckons there’s an internal name for the overs: the Galaxy H1.
This title will probably change before launch, but it does suggest that Samsung is targeting a very premium set of headphones. This is entirely guesswork on Stuff‘s part, but there’s one very specific company that uses an ‘H1’ appellation in an audio context: Apple.
Everything from Apple’s AirPods in-ears to the AirPods Max uses the company’s H1 (and H2) chips. If Samsung has Apple in its sights (and it always does), the internal name could suggest that it’s gunning for the premium brand’s premium over-ears. If that’s the case, we can expect something special from the South Korean outfit when it finally makes an announcement.
That’s expected to be sometime in 2027, perhaps around the time the Galaxy S27 is announced. At the very least, it may distract from the flagship handset getting a little less camera-capable.
