The existence of the Huawei Mate 80 implies the future existence of the Huawei Mate 90 lineup. The date for that future seems to have been vaguely set, according to reports out of China. Details posted to that country’s Weibo social media platform reckon that 23 September is the date we’ll see what’s next from the company.
Probably. Maybe. Previously, the September date has been tossed around, even if it’s a little weird. The Mate 80 range turned up in China in November 2025 before debuting here in February. If this year’s dates are accurate, we might see Huawei’s newest in SA a little earlier than usual.
Meet my Mate 90
The 23 September Mate 90 launch date takes some figuring out, though. The information isn’t directly from Huawei, for starters. China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism website has posted details of an upcoming Huawei launch event. It’ll take place at the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center on the given date. In Hall 20, if you need that context.
Actual details of the device are in short supply, but the company is rumoured to debut its new chipmaking skills with the launch. There’s also the possibility that Huawei has multiple events planned for September. One may focus on the Mate 90 lineup, and the other will unveil the brand’s folding handsets. Given how high-end both ranges are, that makes sense.
Huawei Central points out that the company usually makes official product announcements on a Tuesday. That puts both 22 September and 29 September in the running for one or another of the announcements. More details are likely to be along soon — the Mate 90 can’t hide from us forever.
