While it’s not official yet, we’re willing to bet that Samsung will once again be holding its usual Galaxy Unpacked event in July. There have been mentions of the date and place online: 22 July in London, if you’re curious. But we’re more concerned about the tech that could be showing up.
Flipin’ and Foldin’

The mid-year Unpacked is when Samsung’s latest foldables officially break cover. This year might depart from the norm as the South Korean tech giant is expected to announce three folding smartphones. We’ve seen a few rumours flying around about a wider Galaxy Fold being worked on. Leaked CAD files turned into unofficial renders that apparently show off the new device’s… well, wider measurements. We’re not shaming its form. It could even prove useful to the foldable lovers who don’t want big black bars in their content.
Along with the ‘Galaxy Wide’ (probably not its official name), we are likely to see refreshes of the usual suspects. The Galaxy Fold 7 proved itself as Samsung’s most capable folding phone to date. Whether the Galaxy Fold 8 will follow the Fold 7’s trajectory, or blaze its own path as a renamed ‘Ultra’ model, remains to be seen.
Either way, the new one will likely feature the latest Snapdragon chip, a new camera sensor (if we’re lucky), and potentially faster charging. A bigger battery would go down well, too. But don’t get your hopes up on that one. Also, expect to pay more for the same (or slightly better) specs this year. We have AI to thank for that.
Samsung continues to make the Flip series, announcing two models last year, so people are obviously still buying them. It isn’t likely to go the way of the Galaxy S25 Edge. Not yet, at least. We haven’t heard much else, other than a potential new design, possibly for the cheaper Flip 8 FE. It will likely get a new chip — last year’s device used an Exynos chip, so that should continue — and a new, higher price.

Updated Galaxy Watch models will likely show up. Those will be in the form of the Galaxy Watch 9, likely in multiple sizes, and the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. The former will likely see the fewest changes: a new chip from Snapdragon and maybe a new health feature or two.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 could see a few more improvements — well, just one, really: a bigger battery. It might get a few design tweaks too, to help you tell it apart from the last one. Slightly less likely, but still not impossible, is a new Classic model with the rotating bezel.
Are you seeing this?
The last thing Samsung might showcase is its Android XR glasses Google showed off at its I/O event earlier this year. You can read more about those here if you’re curious.
While having another choice of smart eyewear is great for smart eyewear enthusiasts, there’s a good chance these won’t be available in South Africa, at least not initially. If SA is on the approved list, expect them to be pricey.
