After much ado, PlayStation has finally confirmed when State of Play will next be beamed into our eyeballs. Mark your calendars for the afternoon of Thursday, 3 September. It’ll be immediately followed by a State of Play Japan, hosted by Yuki Kaji. And if that wasn’t enough, there’s chatter that Nintendo has something special planned, too.
Perhaps chatter is an understatement. Nintendo has yet to confirm whether we’ll see a Direct showcase this month, but historically, September is a good bet. The company will likely only announce the specifics a day or two ahead of the stream, whenever that is. Ubisoft’s Just Dance team points to it taking place sometime next week.
A busy couple of weeks
First, back to the State of Play. The first showing, which will cover a wider range of upcoming games, will start at 15h00 on Thursday, 3 September. As ever, you’ll be able to tune in via PlayStation’s official YouTube and Twitch channels. If that’s too difficult, we’ve embedded the official YouTube stream above for your convenience.
Once that’s wrapped up — after we get another look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation — we’ll switch over to State of Play Japan, focusing solely on titles from studios based in Asia. What’ll be shown here is still under wraps. Some rumours suggest Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet may finally make an appearance again at the main event.

As for the potential Nintendo Direct, we’d keep Thursday, 10 September open if you’re tuning in. Again, Nintendo has yet to confirm a Direct will even take place. But over on X, Just Dance responded to fans’ comments about elements of its upcoming title leaking online, with a promise to share the “complete picture” on 10 September.
Just Dance generally likes to show off its titles during a Nintendo Direct, strengthening the possibility of this being the real deal. Nintendo also likes to pre-empt the Tokyo Game Show, which kicks off on 17 September this year. As for what will be shown… fingers are crossed that we’ll get another look at the Ocarina of Time remake, which was announced back in June. The game is on track to release in 2026 for the Nintendo Switch 2.
