It’s Prime Day in South Africa, and to celebrate, Vodacom has announced a new partnership that’ll see some of its customers securing a free Prime membership. Some, like Vodacom’s Red Flexi customers, will only get a three-month trial, while others may be entitled to lifetime access to Amazon’s usually R60/m subscription service.
Vodacom stays winning
Amazon Prime is a hodgepodge of services and discounts. For one thing, it provides access to Prime Video, a monthly Twitch channel subscription, as well as Luna — Amazon’s gaming service. The real value here is the same- and next-day delivery guarantee from Amazon’s digital storefront, which also removes delivery fees.
“As part of the enhanced offering, RED Core, RED Flexi, and RED VIP customers will enjoy all the benefits of Amazon Prime, while customers who sign up for a Home Internet, Mobile Broadband or Fibre plan will be eligible for Amazon Prime from August 2026 onwards,” Vodacom wrote.
The deal builds upon the two entities’ previous collaboration, which saw Vodacom being the first operator to carry Prime Video into the country. It later followed it up with the Prime Video Mobile Edition in 2022.
Not everyone under the Vodacom umbrella is owed lifetime access to Amazon Prime. Up first, Red Flexi customers unlock a free three-month trial of the service, while Red Core customers get a full year for free. After that, the service will continue billing the customer at the regular price of R60/m, Vodacom said.

Red VIP customers, Home Internet, and fibre customers will receive “lifetime access.” Vodacom notes that this is “subject to the availability of the service,” meaning if Amazon ever pulls out of the country, the Prime benefits will come to an end. Customers must also stick with Vodacom to continue receiving the benefits, too.
“Launching Amazon Prime is the next exciting milestone on our journey in the country, deepening our commitment to becoming a meaningful part of South Africans’ daily lives by offering even more convenience, savings, and entertainment, and our collaboration with Vodacom is a demonstration of this ambition,” said Robert Koen, Amazon MD, Sub-Saharan Africa.
