Stuff gets to check out interesting cars all the time. It’s less often that we’re exposed to new motorcycles. The TVS Apache RR310 has broken that dry spell for us. The new two-wheeler is a standard petrol-powered bike with a 312.2 cc engine, but it still fits Stuff‘s format.
That’s because, in addition to being a full-fairing looker, the Apache RR310 is designed for the track. There are a couple of features that make it suitable for putting rubber on the road. Equally, some features could make it an interesting (and fun) commuter.
Apache goes to whoa
The 310cc single-cylinder has a maximum rated top speed of 164km/h top speed and a zero to 100km/h time of 6.74 seconds. It’ll do zero to 60 considerably quicker, in a mere 2.82 seconds. That, presumably, is with the Sport and Track mode enabled, which squeezes a few extra kW out of the engine. There’s also an Urban and Rain mode that’ll scale back power (and fuel consumption) from 28kW to 22kW.
We could go into the rest of the physical details, but most are fairly obvious. What really interests us is the SmartXonnect-enabled Multi Information Race Computer (as TVS has called it). This addition serves up a range of track data over Bluetooth, including “lap times, top speed, gear shifting points, G-force data, and post-ride analysis directly on the rider’s smartphone.”
For non-experts, something called Glide Through Technology Plus will help the cautious out at slower speeds (like on your average road). It helps to limit “constant clutch-throttle coordination,” whatever that means. That sounds just like… riding a motorcycle to us. Still, we’ll have a chance to check these (and the other) features soon.
Stuff should be going hands-on (or gloves-on) with the R90,000 TVS Apache RR310 in the next couple of weeks. Keep your eyes peeled for a full review just as soon as we get the adrenaline grin off our faces.
