After Samsung did some actual innovating for the Galaxy S26 Ultra‘s new Privacy Display, we thought the creative juices might be running a bit dry. How wrong we were. At Display Week 2026, the South Korean company’s display-focused arm unveiled its latest ‘Sensor OLED Display’, which promises exciting health upgrades on the horizon.
Your move, Apple

Rather than rely on some built-in sensors to get a rough idea of your health, Samsung Display’s 6.8in panel sticks the sensors into the screen, requiring only a finger to get a reading. Better yet, it’s doing all that at a bearable resolution, in addition to working alongside Samsung’s Flex Magic Pixel technology.
There’s no telling whether Samsung will have the panel ready for production on next year’s Galaxy flagship. For now, we know that it’s coming… eventually. That’s enough for us. Samsung Display has managed to get the tech working by combining the OLED pixels with Organic Photodiodes, all in a single layer. The photodiodes detect the light reflected back from your finger, allowing it to read some of your health stats (like heart rate and blood pressure).

Part of what held Samsung Display back was getting the panel to a decent resolution, seeing as the sensor and display pixels need to share the same layer. The company has pulled it off, bumping the panel to 500 ppi (pixels per inch). Compared to the base Galaxy S26’s 411 ppi, it’s certainly an improvement, and at least matches the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
The only potential hangup we can see is the accuracy of the sensors themselves. If it can’t keep up with even a basic smartwatch, it’ll likely go unnoticed by much of Samsung’s flagship clientele. But for the folks who prefer to get their time mechanically? We could see Samsung’s new OLED panel proving quite the boon.
