If you want to see what Huawei will stick up your sleeve next, you’re in luck. The company’s upcoming Watch Fit 5 and 5 Pro wearables have surfaced online, with visuals and details aplenty ahead of the Chinese brand’s reveal.
The reveal shouldn’t be too long, either. The Watch Fit 4 turned up in May last year. We all know how large companies like their predictability, so an official announcement should happen shortly. The folks at Winfuture have most of what we can expect, right down to likely pricing.
Watch Fit 5 to watch
The Fit 5 and Fit 5 Pro share several common elements, as is usual. Both will feature the same display resolution (480 x 408) and identical 471mAh batteries. Their visual styles are similar, too, but the Watch Fit 5 Pro will be just a teeny bit bigger. The base model has a 1.82in AMOLED screen. The larger one opts for a 1.92-in screen. It makes up for it by shining brighter, at 3,500 nits compared to the standard model’s 2,500 nits.
Most of the sensors are also common across the range, which will involve Huawei’s TruSense crop from its more recent wearable updates. The 5 Pro gets a few extra features to justify the price increase. There’s an IP6X rating, waterproofing down to 40 metres, and an extra depth sensor. At least you’ll be able to see how far down you are before your lungs explode. Okay, fine, the 5 Pro gets a crystal sapphire cover and an aluminium/titanium chassis too.
Approximate pricing, for the European market, works out to about R4,000 for the basic Fit 5. The premium option will cost buyers nearly R6,000. We couldn’t be surprised if these prices hold steady for a South African launch. The Fit 4 launched at R3,000, while the Fit 4 Pro dropped at R,5000. Given how tech prices are increasing, the European costs might translate directly to our market.
