The Oppo A6 Pro already had its moment in the sun last year, and now it’s the rest of the family’s turn. Oppo today confirmed that the latest additions to the A6 Series have come to South Africa, beginning with the Oppo A6. It sits at the head of the family, with a 7,000mAh battery that should make up for any other misgivings. It’s followed by the Oppo A6x, a cheaper-but-weaker option that’s still somewhat intriguing.
It doesn’t stop there, however. Oppo’s announcement mentions yet another variant — the Oppo A6k. That one is headed for South Africa sometime in May, if all goes to plan. What it’ll cost when it does remains a mystery. Fortunately, the company’s local site already lists the phone, offering some insight into its attributes.
Oppo A6 Wagyu?

There’s no doubt that the A6 is cowering behind that 7,000mAh battery. That’s not a bad thing. Battery life is one of the biggest reasons folks buy new phones, and Oppo understands this. Still, we’re certain it’s diverted funds away from all the rest, which suffer accordingly. Nowhere is this more obvious than the 6.75 HD+ LCD, bolstered (only just) by a 120Hz refresh rate. It skates on by with 900 nits of brightness, too.
Saffas have also been stiffed with the 4G model, rather than the Dimensity-toting 5G variant. That’s owing to the Snapdragon 685 chipset, limping along with 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB storage.
The A6’s innards may be the definition of ‘fine’, but perhaps the 50MP sensor, helped along by a 2MP monochrome shooter, will change your mind. You won’t be dealing with many selfies on the A6 owing to its 8MP shooter. It’s all a bit rough, really.
Of course, these are all decent specs — for a smartphone pushing a couple of grand at the most. Oh, how we wish we could go back to a time when we wholeheartedly believed the A6 series would lure buyers in with a R6,000 price. How wrong we were. Despite the less-than-stellar specs, Oppo tacked on a high R9,000 price for the A6. The RAMpocalypse strikes again, huh? Fortunately, the A6x goes in a different direction.
A6x ‘gon give it to ya

The Oppo A6x shares much with its R9,000 sibling. For one thing, it has the same 4G Snapdragon 685 chipset, though with only 4GB of physical memory and 64GB of storage. The 6.75in HD+ LCD is unchanged, too. It’s traded the 7,000mAh battery for a 6,100mAh one, which still puts it ahead of the competition.
That might all sound like a burden, but it’s anything but. Oppo has fixed an incredible price of R2,000 for the A6x, making it an easy purchase for those looking to stick to a budget. Better yet, it hit shelves in December 2025.
As for the upcoming Oppo A6k, we’d hoped it would be the 5G-enabled, Dimensity-toting model we were looking for, but no. Despite that being the case in China, South Africa’s A6k keeps the Snapdragon 685 4G chip. It even trades the battery for a smaller 6,500mAh cell. We could see the Oppo A6k working if it can get the pricing right.
