Online retailer Takealot began testing its new TakealotNow service in South Africa towards the end of last year, and it must be going well. The brand has announced that it’s spreading its quick-fire delivery tendrils into KwaZulu-Natal, specifically in and around the Durban area.
As with the initial test, it’s rolling out the feature in areas with large population (and therefore logistics) density. Durban just happens to be next on the list.
Takealot of shopping
According to TakealotNOW head Marnus Engelbrecht, the feature “started as a pilot project in 2023, and has grown rapidly ever since. We have expanded to the greater Cape Town region, Johannesburg, Pretoria, and now Durban. We’re excited to continue this growth and bring the convenience of on-demand shopping to even more areas across South Africa.”
As before, folks in KZN can get their products delivered almost immediately (via a Mr. Delivery drive as opposed to one of the company’s couriers) by selecting items with the ‘Get It Now’ tag on the storefront. There’s also a dedicated option for high-speed delivery in the ‘Shops’ section of the Mr. D app, which collates most (or all) of the available items in one place.
It may not work for large appliances and so on — good luck transporting those on a little motorcycle — but the service also takes advantage of the retailer’s R99/m subscription tier for “unlimited free” Now deliveries. Now… do the Eastern Cape next.
