Robot vacuums, drones, electric hypercars; they’re all just coils of wire and magnets, right? Dreame certainly seems to think so, having previously teased its “Bugatti-level” EV ambitions. Those ambitions are set to show up at this year’s CES conference.
The smart home company’s first electric car was teased (again) via the Chinese social media network Weibo, where the company outlined few details of the vehicle but pointed out that it would use Dreame’s vacuum cleaner smarts to achieve (at least some) of its performance.
Speedy Dreame
Dreame’s still-unnamed EV is thought to feature more than 1,000HP of performance and a zero to 100km/h speed of less than two seconds. It’s a far cry from the other project the company announced in recent weeks — an Apple-centric portable battery — but you can see how these products, plus robot vacuum cleaners, are connected, right?
Beyond that, all we’ve got to go on is a few visuals of the eventual EV, plus a promise that we’ll see more at the Consumer Electronics Show expo taking place next week. It definitely looks the part, though just about any competent person with an interest in cars could lob an attractive design into the social media timeline with little effort. It’ll be all about performance and what’s inside the cabin. Dreame has promised the first, while the second should be in keeping with the ‘luxury’ nature of this EV. How, we’re not exactly sure yet.
Chinese manufacturers have been leaping into the EV space in recent years. Huawei’s attempts are mostly software-based, while Xiaomi has gone all-in on releasing its own range of electric vehicles. Even the hypercar space isn’t safe, with actual car manufacturer BYD crowing about the performance of its YangWang U9 to anyone who will listen. Whether a completely first-time creation from a robot vacuum specialist can stand shoulder to shoulder with these efforts (and more established ones) remains to be seen. Hopefully, that last bit will take place next week.
